About

Language variation is the systematic study of differences in language use observed among individuals or groups within a speech community or across different communities. This field investigates the linguistic features that vary at all levels of analysis (e.g., phonological, morphological, syntactic, lexical), the social and contextual factors conditioning this variation (e.g., geography, social class, age, gender, situation), and its significance for understanding language structure, processes of language change, identity construction, and the relationship between language and society.
